The Author, a former Chesapeake Bay artificial reef manager, recreational boater, and sport-fisherman, peels back layers of Chesapeake Bay complexity, laying a foundation for understanding and scouting where to fish. With a foreword by FishTalk Magazine Senior Angler and author Lenny Rudow, this book examines formation of the Chesapeake Bay estuary, natural processes including circulation and salinity, and types of natural and artificial structural features with many examples, illustrations, and reference maps. It offers insight about factors that make some features hotspots and others not so much.
Book content provides a platform for progressively building spot-specific and local-area-specific knowledge through armchair scouting and fishing time on the water. The treatment also supports correlating existing local knowledge with underlying natural processes and scoping fishing potential of areas not previously fished. Practical guidance for rigging and fishing for and with Norfolk spot is provided for new fishermen to help get them started.
Fish and fishermen are drawn to many structures that pose dangers to navigation. Fishing for striped bass is also best during colder months that increase safety risks. A concluding chapter developed with contributions and technical support from kayak light-tackle fisherman and author Alan Battista provides detailed information supporting improved awareness and practice of fishing and boating safety.
